We were hairy when Honda unveiled new Civic Si based on the 11-gen Civic hatchback. In addition, we were slightly concerned about its 1.5 litre turbo with five horses less than the previous Civic Yes. But with the long-awaited arrival of 2023 Honda Civic Type R, the automotive manufacturer put to rest our anxieties of a severely watered and subjected version of a compact vehicle ready for the track.
Start with more power under the hood – enough to become the most powerful Honda production vehicle sold in the United States – and a collection of pieces specifically designed to make it go faster, harder corner, and brake harder than any type R before.
“Type R is very important for Honda as the pinnacle of our factory performance and an irreplaceable brand that allows enthusiasts to experience Honda’s racing spirit and look for the latest in driving speed and pleasure,” said Hideki Kakinuma, Global Civic Type R Development Leader.
2023 Honda Civic Type R: Brief History
Civic Type 2023 R is only the second Type R to officially enter the U.S. market. Honda baptized the name Type R to the first-gender NSX supercar in 1992. Type R integration continued in 1995 before the first type of Civic R entered into existence in 1997 with the sixth gene JDM Civic SiR.NSX R GT. Only five were built in 2005, and each was painted White Championship.

The new Civic guy R has nine more horses and 15 more lb-ft. torque while pumping 157.8 horsepower per litre – the largest specific output of any type of Civic R.
The engine sends energy to the front wheels using a six-speed manual gearbox. Honda makes one of the best manual sticks in the business, and we do not doubt that its lighter, differential type helicoidal-slip limited, and improves the function of rev-matching make it more rewarding when crashing through gears. To sweeten the pot is a lever of high rigidity change and a change pattern optimized for high-precision gear changes that will make you feel like a racing deity on the road.

It is also 0.8 inches longer and a half inch lower to the ground than the Civic Hatchback plebi. Engine suspension, traction line and chassis is a double-axis rear suspension reconfigured and multilink that Honda promises to provide better direction stability and straight line. In the meantime, the anchors are two-piece front rotors and a brake booster to provide better braking resistance when the gear gets hot.
The 2023 Honda Civic Type R has four preset driving modes: Comfort, Sport, R+ and Individual. The latter will allow you to tune the response of the engine, suspension, direction and sound of escape.
By mentioning the Civic Type R, the first thing that enters our minds are spoilers, scoops, fins, and undeniable aerial bits – no more. The new Type R is a moderation champion in its appearance, except for its extreme rear wing. Honda said the 2023 Type R has new body panels from the A-pillar forward, including a custom front bumper design and a custom rear bumper. It also has wider rear doors that are exclusive to 2023 Civic Type R.
Rounding your “gentleman racer” vibrator (a significant improvement in the charm of the R-type runner) are three round escape tips and a new rear diffuser to improve the strength below by reducing the resistance. Also standard are 19-inch matt black wheels wrapped in sticky and wider Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber. Honda said alloys have a “reverse rim” design that improves the tire contact patch.

The controller can access a revised digital instrument cluster with multiple display options. Of course, the instrument panel has a large tachometer, a march screen and a second meter for R+ driving mode.
A new and exclusive feature in the Civic Type R is an optimized version of the Honda LogR Performance Datalogger. The system analyzes sensor readings and equipment aboard the vehicle to carry clean track features like a chronometer to record their return times, a score function and a 3D tire friction circle to show the maximum strength of the tire. Honda LogR does not require a smartphone app to work, but you can connect it to your iOS or Android device to share your time back with friends and other Type R owners.
